Lajos Harsányi

Lajos Harsányi was born in Karcag, Hungary in 1987 and now lives in Vienna, Austria. His research primarily focuses on the theoretical foundations of the Enlightenment philosophy, Jewish hermeneutics, as well as ethics and moral philosophy. His work places strong emphasis on the philosophy of religion, classical and modern traditions of textual interpretation, and the epistemological implications of post-structuralist critical theories.

A foundational conviction of his theoretical work is that religious traditions and Enlightenment ideals are not mutually exclusive, but rather interdependent dimensions that fundamentally contribute to the free formation of human ethical sensibility and agency. From classical questions of moral philosophy to the experience of a traumatized human existence, his work aims to formulate new theoretical frameworks at the intersection of tradition and modernity through the critical deconstruction of ingrained prejudices.

Alongside his theoretical philosophical pursuits, his research interests also include the study of Jewish funeral culture and the documentation and preservation of built Jewish heritage, which he investigates through the interdisciplinary methodologies of ethnography, cultural anthropology, and heritage preservation.
